Functions
Equal Opportunity Cells (EOCs) in universities are meant to promote equity, prevent discrimination, and support disadvantaged groups (SC/ST, OBC, minorities, persons with disabilities, and other socio-economically disadvantaged groups), in line with UGC’s equity and inclusion framework.
Core Mandate
- To oversee effective implementation of policies and programmes for disadvantaged groups.
- To provide guidance and counselling on academic, financial, social and other matters.
- To enhance diversity and social inclusion among students and staff.
- To identify academic, social and psychological concerns of marginalized students.
- To establish or coordinate counselling and support services.
- Anti-discrimination and grievance handling.
- To act as a nodal point to prevent discrimination on grounds of caste, religion, gender, disability or socio-economic status.
- To receive and process complaints in coordination with SC/ST Cell, OBC Cell, ICC and Grievance Redressal Cell.
- To support UGC regulations on Promotion of Equity in Higher Educational Institutions.
- To disseminate information on scholarships, fellowships and welfare schemes.
- To assist students in availing financial aid and fee concessions.
- To organize awareness programmes on equality, rights and inclusive practices.
- To support accessibility and reasonable accommodation initiatives.
